30-foot 2005 Airstream Classic

My Airstream style:
Since we full-time in our Airstream, we use our trailer for everything. It’s our home. We travel all over the country, mainly in pursuit of beautiful scenery. One of my hobbies is photography, and this lifestyle gels so well with my need to get outside with my camera, usually with the Airstream somewhere nearby.
Our origin story is a little unique. Both my wife and I are early retirees in our mid-30s. We sold both of our homes in Tucson, AZ and bought a 2005 30′ Airstream Classic travel trailer. We travel the country in search of beautiful country and usually try to find free places to stay, including BLM land and national forests. We will stay in campgrounds to recharge every once in a while. We plan to maintain this lifestyle for as long as it remains enjoyable. My parents full-time RV’ed for 13 years, though not in an Airstream.
My wife Courtney and our two rescued dogs travel in our Airstream. Patti is a little 12-pound poodle mix and Penny is our 50-pound white boxer mix.
Camper or glamper?
We definitely prefer boondocking. Not only is boondocking free, but these sites are usually more remote, private and offer some extraordinary views of this wonderful country. We have 500w of solar and a 440 Ah battery bank that keeps us fully charged on most sunny days. We decorate outside some, often with little potted plants on the picnic table, but we usually don’t put out a lot.
Our rug is first to go down when we find a new spot, followed shortly after by our GCI rocking camp chairs and little foldable table. Inside we’ve made the Airstream our home with personalized touches. We put down vinyl plank flooring, tore out the dinette and installed a custom desk, and my wife even reupholstered the valences and sewed up new curtains. So while we may be roughing it in the wilderness, the inside of the Airstream is comfortable and cozy.
For me, it’s my camera. I’m an avid photographer and love to document our travels on digital film. We also produce travel videos for our YouTube channel, A Streamin’ Life. For my wife, it’s her hiking boots. While I hike for the photography and videography, my wife hikes for the fun of it and the amazing locations.
The ideal Airstream day:
For us, the ideal day is a day of relaxation in the wilderness looking at something beautiful, like the Teton or Rocky Mountains. Even better if we are camping near a river, lake or ocean. We love water, more so than we ever did living in a home. We would wake up with the sun and have a relaxing morning listening to the wind on the water and taking in the views. We would then head out on some local adventure whether an awesome hike, nearby attraction, or a visit to a local brewery or restaurant.
Getting back to the Airstream some time in the early afternoon would give us time to again relax and for me to look through the video and photos I made out on our adventure, before we mix up a couple of cocktails and sit outside the Airstream for happy hour with our two dogs. We’d cook up a delicious dinner and then light up the campfire for an evening of s’mores under the stars.
