Acadia—the first Eastern National Park—is a 47,000-acre East Coast recreation area on Maine’s Mount Desert Island. The varied landscape features woodland, rocky beaches and glacier-scoured granite peaks including Cadillac Mountain, the highest peak on the U.S. Atlantic coast.

Schoodic Woods Campground  is described as “perfection” by Campendium reviewer “James”.

“One of my favorite places, away from the crowds of Bar Harbor but close enough if you need to visit,” he said. “Peaceful, private, large sites. Hated to leave.”

Reviewer “Teddi & Roger” said it’s a “fantastic National Park campground with well separated, wooded sites with plenty of space for the largest rig. Lots of trails and carriage roads for hiking/biking, and a beautiful coastline – what more could you want? Well, maybe showers.”

It’s true; there are bathroom facilities with dishwashing sinks—but no showers, or sewer hookups. (A dump station is onsite.)

Make advance reservations for this popular destination. The quaint (and crowded) town of Bar Harbor on Mt. Desert Island is about an hour’s drive away from the campground. Roads are paved and easy to navigate.

Schoodic Woods is “National Park camping at its BEST!” raved reviewer “Technomadia”. “I was brimming with excitement to arrive and check this place out, and true to word—this campground is amazing.”

“Most of the RV spots on B-Loop are spacious pull throughs. We had one of the smaller ones, and we still felt like we had almost an entire zip code to ourselves. Some of the spots, easily could have accommodated an 80′ RV with 40 slides (if such things were made). And privacy galore! A lot of attention was put into the layout and design.”

Reports of connectivity at Schoodic Woods vary from marginal (barely usable Verizon & AT&T service) to “I got great streaming and wifi from the maintenance building.” Tech campers, bring your signal boosting gear and you’ll have no problem.
